A group of younger riders heads off up Mt Pirongia

It was raining, misty, chilly and forbidding to begin with.
Nobody will turn up, we thought.
Wrong! Cars started pouring in while we were still setting up the tents. They came from as close as Pirongia village and Te Awamutu and as far as Cambridge, Hamilton and Otorohanga.

Blair brought his wooden see-saw, kids ramps and obstacles, which proved a big hit with the younger riders, when he set them up on the kids' trail. He then launched into a mission to set world records in various age-groups for a circuit of the kids trail. It was hotly contested and excellent records were established. (Results at bottom of page)

Meanwhile, although the sun was now emerging to brighten things up, the riders braving the upper mountainside trails were finding the going a bit slippery. But this did not dampen their enthusiasm. Club guides took group after group to the top of the trails and back.

The photos below show some of the action.
